Since your using illustrator right now you might be interested in this Digital Paper Cut tutorial Steph Laberis put up on her blog the other day.
If your not interested in doing Digital Paper Cut pictures follow the tutorial halfway and you can play around with giving your illustrator pictures textures.
If you don't know how to do that and you'd like to learn how.

A SILVERBACK GORILLA GIVES YOU AN INDIAN BURN WITH HIS FEET! And then Katie bakes a cupcake in your likeness and I smoosh it into your face, and then the wombats lick it off your face as midgets ticlke your feet with feathers (the gorilla will be holding you down to minimize squirming). You get an official heart badge afterwards, and then we sing the Elephant song while dancing around the campfire in our Sunday Best. Yay!
