Some Things Last A Long Time

Above are some more of my Illustrator advancements. I'm pretty proud of these, just cause it's something new. That program is tedious, but cool once you punch it in the face a few times. So there!

Drunken doodle drop-off!

Love the doodles!

Do you draw some of these on construction paper, or do you color them weird in Illustrator?

"Do you draw some of these on construction paper"

I wouldn't call it construction paper, just colored paper :)

Wow! Miss a little, miss a lot. Wonderful past posts Kali ! I hope all this work leads to something big for you. Not sure how it couldn't.

Nice girls and great job on the inking!

I have the feeling that illustrator isn't listening always to the things you draw. Sometimes you get a totally different line then you draw... Like a bad imitation. I especialy find not organic things hard to draw in illustrator.

Truly sick linework on "babababababikibi."

I really like the fourth from the top and the yellow one. I just don't have the patience for Illustrator but I really like that whole vector one size fits all thing though.

Proud you should be!
I guess the program is 'flash'?
I wouldn't know, never used it is all.

Also here to tell you Hula Girl has been painted, but she hasn't got a skirt yet. She's up on my blog.

Cool!

So how did you get your thick and thin line work there? it isnt a solid filled path is it?

Kali Fontecchio said...

Hi Kyle- I learned this technique from Brian Romero:

make a new calligraphy pen- set the bottom choice to 3 pt, and turn on pressure and set that to 3 pt. There ya go. :)

Awesome stuff! And are you a Daniel Johnston fan, too, Kali?! :D

Kali Fontecchio said...

Yes, yes I am.

Man, you're caricatures are hilarious! All your drawings look really nice, Kali! They're so damn funny!

Jorge Garrido said...

Daniel Johnston? I didn't know you were into Christian rock, Kali!

Were you sad when Larry Norman died? You know Bob Dylan always said he was the Secular Larry Norman? Just like how Bruce Springsteen is the American Bryan Adams. I don't know what I'm talking about anymore.

Kali Fontecchio said...

No cussing on my blog, Jorge. Which includes the phrase, "Bruce Springsteen."

Jorge Garrido said...

I'd hate to use any language efocative of profanity. I'm glad to see there's someone who hates Springsteen as much as I.

Your self confidence astounds me! Way to go Kali! I'm very happy with your work and can't wait to see more as usual! I love the frailty and innocence of your female drawings too. :)

So how doea it feel to be done with Otis... Love the doodles, of course.

Kali Fontecchio said...

I'm quite frail and innocent myself! Nah, I change my mind.

Miranda! HI. It feels like I need to take a nap! I think I'll do that tonight.

Hey, I haven't been here for few weeks (shame on me), and now I'm bombarded with all this incredibly amazing artwork from the recent posts! I feel a sensory overload!
And congratulations on your graduation! Now you're ready to conquer the cartoon world.

Fantastic stuff. Your cartoons are great and I love checking in to see what you're up to. You have such fun style.

You seem to have tamed Illustrator pretty quickly and I love what you've done already. I've been fearful of jumping into drawing with the computer, but after looking at what you've done it makes me want to dip my toes in the water (although Illustrator is an awfully expensive pool to just dip your toe into).

Hey Kali, I didnt notice your reply untill today. thanks for the tip! (and Brian of course) I wasnt aware you could even use tablet pressure in illustrator. I had a hunch but could never find it.

Now I can finally draw more traditionally in it. It's sitll pretty frustrating to work with though, so if you have any other tips to throw my way about how to make it more artist freiendly Im all ears. one problem I keep running into is that it doesnt let me continue new line, but instead wants to change a nearby one.
