Sickness Unto Foolish Death

These Painter experiments are fun. I don't really know what I'm doing in that program though, haha. This girl that you see is one of my favorite video game characters, Heather from Silent Hill 3. Besides that series of games, I can't stand horror for the most part, I get scared way too easily. Plus, these games are far more interesting than your run-of-the-mill scary game.

I generally don't like digital painting, but painter has some really cool tools to use to get cool effects. It vaguely resembles paint behavior. Oh ya! If you're going to try to use that program, the most important thing I learned is to turn off "ghosting" immediately in the preferences, or the program will crash.

Below is a poor, poor attempt at drawing Kristen McCabe. I will try again soon, except I will try to suck less the next time, haha.

Some earlier sketches of Heather in her normal outfit, and in her secret joke outfit Princess Heart. A spoof on Sailor Moon I'm guessing.

Going with the video game Silent HIll theme, here are some weird ass doodles of pyramid head. Oh by the way, I hate the film adaptation.

Now let's all hug a strawberry!

I love the Silent Hill drawings! It makes me wish the film adaptation was a 2-D cartoon :)

Thanks Jason! I agree, they should do a 2d cartoon.

By the way- great interviews going on over there! Loved the Eddie one, of course.

Thank you Kali!

Your new post, as well as Katie's, has inspired me to break out the ol' sketchbook and try to do caricatures of my friends :)

I will have to post them for you when I'm done!

Hahahaha silent hill is an awesome game and pyramid head is a great character. I have to admit though i am more of a resident evil fan and if you have not played that game you should definitely play the remake of the first one on gamecube it's a really good game. Also video game movies suck, except the mario bros movie, but thats the case in which the movie was so bad that it was good. Really nice stuff and my favorite is the double headed nico drawing

I dig your style dude. What awesome use of color.

Take a look at my blog if you get a chance, I colored a katie rice original of you, just for fun. I"d love if you gave me notes, or anything.

yeah i was sad about the silent hill movie too :( you should try playing resident evil. i think i like that game a little more then silent hill.

Bob and Leo: Haha thanks you guys for the recommendation of Resident Evil- but been there done that. I started playing those before Silent Hill was even around. They are far more cheese ball, and less interesting in my opinion. And I hated their film adaptations of those too. Oh ya- they also have lots of glitches (at least the first four did) the Hunter glitch! So poo on them. When it switched to Nintendo, I wasn't about to follow it. I can only afford one game system at a time, haha.

hey that nino takes on a whole new dimension. it's getting all cosmoligcal on me, man...

also, are you an xbox or playstation duder?

jack raffin said...

also: to "gamers" on this comments post, were you more nintendo or sega oriented kids growing up? i ask because i was definitely nintendo - so much so that sega completely mystifies me. it's kinda alien to me. as much as i dig sonic - what's the deal with that game? just going round real fast, picking up rings?

ookay, bye.

Kali Fontecchio said...

Hey Bob- ya I only know tekken, sorry.

Jack- I definitely went from SNES to PS. I'm still only a PS person today.

I love the drawings and how AMAZING you've become at inking, but I hate video games. And that movie sucked. My friend Kyle made me go see it. So I decided to stop having friends. It's a win-win.

Well, actually, I love classic video games, and was a Nintendo kid all my life. The SNES was really the Golden Age of Video Games, wasn't it? Thank God for emulators. But any game system after the 64 is uninteresting to me. And the Wii? A piece of crap.

Oh, and Sonic is the most overrated game ever. Mario ever!

spacemanaxdahl.com said...

How about System Shock 2 or BioShock?

Kali Fontecchio said...

Oh Jorge

I agree with you that the SNES was the golden age: Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger...ahhhh.

Space Man guy: ..um, neither? Never heard of them.

yeah i love your color paper caracatures they're so fun to look at. the snearing man with the pointing up nose is great

I'm with ya, Jorge.

We had a Sega Genesis in my house after the NES broke ( despite numerous blowings inside to fix it ) and I barely played it ( although I liked Sonic The Hedgehog ).

SNES was good from what I understand, but by the time Playstation roled around, I was done.

Think we could play Super Mario 3 online together some time?

Something I just learned in class is that Preston Blair also went to Otis, you're so lucky to have gone somewhere that so many amazing people went to!

Kali, those top paintings, the way they're painted reminds me a lot of the textures John used for the cover of Comic Book #1.

Of course, I love it!

Wow. Love that detail of the face. I dig the whites of the eyes being almost a chrome effect, seeing a reflected sky in the eyes.

Anyone who doesn’t like these drawings is a fucking faggot.
