Ayla Dance, Nu Sad

I love Ayla, she's a great character in Chrono Trigger. Plus life begins and ends with Nu, no?

I swear this is the best game of all time- it has been for me for over ten years! I never get bored of it, and you don't want to know how many times I have beaten it (luckily with 13 different endings I can mix it up every so often).

Here's Marle, I love her as well, the girls in this game have so much personality so I can't help myself but draw them.

An old post where I drew them girls (warning- old drawings are kinda uuugly).

And for the hell of it...

I....I have no idea what this is. Have never seen it before in my life and can't even remember that post of 18 mos ago you did. It's like a black hole!

That said, like your drawings of these game girls. "Nu", huh? Hmmm......

Thanks Jenny!

Not sure if you pay games, but if you do- you should get this one! I play it on my adorable pink DS.

Ahhhh! What a pleasant way to start the day - Chrono Trigger à la Kali Fontecchio! It really is the best game ever. I can talk about how it is the best game ever for HOURS. I adore how you drew the girls, both here and in the older post (Lucca!! <3) - the PS 'redesigns' were truly fug. I'd never realised how awful they really were!

Funnily enough I just started a new game last week upon realising it had been rereleased for Nintendo DS - I was overjoyed and promptly stole my siblings' DS's, and now I WANT ONE :( Even if it is only so I can play Chrono Trigger again and again at will, anywhere, any time!

Oh boy am I babbly today. Again, what wonderful drawings! They've made my day all better already :)

Wow! Great drawings! I never would have figured you for an Akira Toriyama fan! Ever read Dr. Slump? Drag-on balls?

Oh Kali, it really is the best! Everything in the game is just how it should be, it's magical really. I was just painting to the soundtracks the other day :)

Toriyama was on fire with Chrono, I mean he knows the formula to make an appealing character without even trying, but the cast of that game is so visually compelling and unforgettable, it's bananas.

Your drawings of the girls are really nice, they bring the memories flooding back and feel very true to their personalities :)

I've nevere played Chrono Trigger, played Chrono choss though.

Wow thanks Gloria- ya getting a DS is a must!

"Ever read Dr. Slump? Drag-on balls?"

Nope, but I've heard I should!

Cory: Ya the music in that game is genius- I read online that Yasonori Mitsuda got ulcers making it so good, hahaha, so Nobu Uematsu had to finish like a few tracks.

Niki: well what are you waiting for? Chrono Cross will make a lot more sense if you play CT.

Ahh, I keep forgetting I have a DS. I can play this!

Kali Fontecchio said...

you sure can!

Haha I've played my share! Just woefully out of it...though I did buy Katamari for my iphone, thanks to iphone guru and animator Randy Cartwright, and suddenly all those adorable weird-head drawings you did ages ago made sense to me. I'll seek this out!

Hey I heard you & KR were out just last night & I wished I'd been there too. We should def do it some time.

Yay Katamari!

But hey- I wasn't out last night with Katie- who said that and where was it? Hahahaha.

You do it too and I love it!!
AAaaand when I interviewed at Blizzard, they asked me what my fav game was and I said Chrono trigger for SNES!! Wrong answer!! The correct answer would have been WARCRAFT!!! MAN! I'm an idiot. But yeah!! Best game eveeer!!! I haven't bought it yet for the DS but I got Children of Mana and Final Fantasy 4 and they're AWESOOOME!!
Did you ever play Secret of Mana?? It's still my fav to this day!

AAAND I just found out that you can trade in your DS for a new DSI! So instead of it being $140 it's only $70. It has internet for online gaming!! No pink versions yet though :T

Haha, wait what- no that was the right answer dammit! You did good!

"Did you ever play Secret of Mana??"

No I have not- do you recommend it? I'm guessing yes, haha.

"No pink versions yet though :T"

That's exactly why I didn't want it too!!!

I love your coloring! Can you please share some resources that helped you develop your style and technique? sean@seanward.net

Kali Fontecchio said...

Hi Sean....

well if you go around my blog I mention from time to time what inspires me- but there are tons of things!

Like in this post it was Akira Toriyama, but I have all sorts of people I look up to, Harvey Kurtzman, Mel Crawford, Toshitaka Amano, Bob Clampett, etc.

I look to those, and hundreds more over a long period of time to add to my mental database. It takes a lot of work and practice to figure out how to make it all work! I only feel like I'm on the thresh hold of finding my own personal interpretation of the world I see, maybe in another five years or so I'll be where I want to be at, haha.
